Don't Be Offended In God

Matthew  11:1-6
1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: 
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. 

To be offended means to be upset or feel hurt.

It means you are with somebody because he did not meet your expectation.

It means to be hurt by somebody's attitude.

We have to types of people that come to church.

1. People that are offended in God.

Like John the baptist, this set of people are offended in God because He did not come to them at the time they wanted Him.

They are offended in God because they believe God has not done much compared to His ability.

They are offended in God because they have not seen the answers to their prayers.

They are offended in God because they have not seen their breakthrough.

They are offended in God because to them God is not acting fast.

They are offended in God when they see God blessing other people instead of them.

So when they come to church, they come with an angry mind. They pray angrily, question every thing done in the church. They are half minded in church.

They have not come to worship but to quarrel with the almighty.

You cannot enjoy God's intervention and blessings when you are offended in God.


2. People that rejoice in God.

This set of people rejoice in God whether God come to them or not.

They rejoice in God whether God answers their prayers or not.

They are happy having God not receiving His blessings. They know that having God is more than having every other thing.

Habakkuk 3:17-19
17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
19 The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. . . .

Whenever you choose to rejoice in God, you make yourself available for the uplifting of God.

Instead of being offended in God, please rejoice in God.

Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. -Philippians 4:4

To rejoice in the Lord is the safest thing to do.

Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. -Philippians 3:1

It is safe because in rejoicing in God you move Him to manifest Himself in your and situation.

John the baptist was beheaded in the prison because he was offended in Christ. He could not receive deliverance because he was offended in his maker and savior.

This means, to rejoice in God moves God to deliver us from every form of imprisonment and captivity.

Those that rejoice in God always give thanks in all situations.

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. -1 Thessalonians 5:18

How Do I Cultivate the Habit of Rejoicing in God?

1. Appreciate the life you have.

Psalm 150:6 -  Let everything that has breathe praise the Lord.

For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. -Ecclesiastes 9:4

2. Recognize that you were made by God.
Psalm 100:3-4

3. Concentrate on What God has Done.
Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. -Acts 14:17

Whenever you focus on what God has not done you will become offended in Him. But learn to concentrate and rejoice on what God has done and praise Him ahead for the remaining things He will do for you.

4. Know that ALL THINGS are working together for your good.

Romans 8:28

5. Know that God will never forsake nor leave you helpless.

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.  -John 14:18

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. -Hebrews 13:5

I assure you that as you rejoice in God, He will come to rescue you and manifest Himself in your life.
